Creating Quietly

The beginning of Creating Quietly by Clare Lacanau,

A new journal documenting creative processes and discovering the path from the creative I fine art photographer I am, to the artist I was born to be.

The early stages of a new project or life are exciting but also overwhelming to share.

So I’m treading tentatively and somewhat quietly forward, taking the time to develop my art and also myself in this process. It’s not only the steps forward I’m taking ‘quietly’, this journey is also about slowing down, observing and listening to what inspires me to create, my love of light, flowers and movement are calling me forward. The intention is to utilise the skills I have developed throughout my photography career and also discard some rules along on the way. The need for sharp, perfect images has been the goal of my career as a portrait photographer up until this point and I now find myself playing outside the rules to create beautiful, soft, light, moving artwork. Finding a way to include my love of embroidery, painting textures, as well as cyanotype processes is also the hope. I am moving forward from professional portrait photographer to fine art photographer/artist.

So the time has come,

I have started! 🙂 Time for this next chapter to begin. I’ve been involved in photography most of my life, since I was a little girl, and have been professionally photographing people and newborn babies for just over eight years now. I will continue to document peoples lives and their journey but will be marking out more of my time to become the artist I have always been. I’m keen to share my process and art work here…speak it, live it, share it! I hope to also share quotes, podcasts and useful bits and pieces I stumble on during my week that will hopefully add to the happiness in your day. The goal is to make a journal entry each week, to document how it’s all going.

Will you stay for the ride?

I’d be honoured for you to join me on this journey as I share the good, the bad, the ugly and the sublime. Hopefully not too much of the ugly 😛 If I can inspire you and others to slow down and create some time for art in your life, or just share some pretty artwork with you, to brighten your day, then this journal will be worthwhile. More importantly if you do create something I’d love for you to share your art/creations with me too, I’d love to cheer you on. This could be the start of a beautiful art community

Don’t miss a journal entry, make sure you have subscribed and I’ll make the time to write to you again next week.

Let’s Begin – The First Creative Journal Entry 🙂

This last couple of weeks I’ve painted two canvas drop cloths, using some chalk paint, one a lovely light blue colour and the other a blush pink colour. Then I purchased a bunch of Californian Poppies from my local grocery store one morning. They were all closed buds when I got them and to my surprise all opened beautifully by that same afternoon. They were gorgeous!! To good an opportunity miss, so I set up the studio and photographed them. I’ve used in camera movement with some amazing soft light and created these images, and others, which I look forward to sharing soon. I’ve ordered some prints on various papers and canvas to test the best medium to use and am hoping to add some embroidery and paint texture to create lovely soft looking fine art pieces. I’ll let you know how that goes next week.
